Window Cleaning Academy: Essential Prep

Before you start cleaning windows like a pro, proper preparation is key. Gathering the right tools and setting up correctly will save time and ensure crystal-clear results.

What You’ll Need

Soap & Water: A mix of water and dish soap is all you need to make a perfect solution to beak down dirt and grime. If you want to go the extra mile add a home solution like vinegar or a professional additive like glass gleam to ensure absolute no steaks.

Bucket: Large enough to dip the mop (applicator) comfortably, ideally rectangular to fit your tools.

Squeegee: The most important tool for a streak-free finish. Make sure the rubber is clean and in good condition with each use. Pro tip: replace your blade once a week and use hard rubber in warmer climate and soft rubber in colder climate.

Mop (or applicator): Used to apply the soapy solution and loosen grime and dirt before squeegeeing.

Poles or Ladders: For higher windows, use an extension pole with a squeegee attachment or a stable ladder for better control.

Preparation Steps

  1. Fill Your Bucket – Mix dish soap with water. Avoid using too much soap to prevent unnecessary streaks.
  2. Check Your Tools – Ensure your squeegee blade is clean and your mop is free of debris that could scratch the glass.
  3. Plan For Safety – If using a ladder, place it on stable ground and secure it properly. If using an extension pole, ensure it’s the right length for the job.
  4. Pre-Wipe for Heavy Dirt – If windows have excessive grime or cobwebs, wipe them down first with a dry cloth or brush to avoid spreading dirt.

With the right setup and a little preparation, you’ll be ready to clean windows quickly and efficiently, leaving them spotless and streak-free. Stay tuned for more tips from Bravo Window Cleaning’s Window Cleaning Academy.
